Boutique Holiday Home accommodation in the small historic gold mining town of St Bathans Central Otago. Close to the Otago Rail trail and 40 minutes from Ranfurly, Alexandra and Clyde.
Built using traditional materials of mud bricks combined with modern building standards this well appointed delightful cottage is both warm and cosy in the winter and cool and comfortable in the summer.
Originally the land was once an orchard for the Catholic school that used to be next door back in the 1800's. We have planted fruit trees up the back so that once again the property will have fruit growing.
The cottage is made from hand made bricks and are load bearing walls so this is not a facade but the real thing. We combined old methods with new to create this lovely cottage.
When we built the cottage we wanted to use natural solid materials and build with integrity to help keep what we felt was the essence of St Bathans. We used hand made mud bricks and hand cut stone to do this. We did most of the finishing work ourselves including this stone wall made from local Schist.
Inside there are 2 bedrooms, 1 lounge, kitchen and dining area, Bathroom and toilet, and laundry.
A double size vintage wrought iron bed situated at the front of the cottage and gets the first of the morning sun.
An original restored vintage 3/4 size bed will fit 2 average size adults. It is cosy! Located at the rear of the cottage with a view out into the courtyard.
A beautifully appointed kitchen reminiscent of times gone by but with modern facilities.
